With more than 80 employees, spread across our sites in Dolbeau-Mistassini, Chicoutimi, Amos and Quebec City, we put our know-how at the service of our customers in the forestry, construction and handling sectors.

Since its founding by Marcel Trottier, Hydromec has been part of a tradition of customer service that goes back more than 160 years. Today, the sixth generation of the Trottier family continues to perpetuate this tradition of excellence in mechanics and hydraulics.

Our History

Foundation of Hydromec by Marcel Trottier

1975

Founded in Dolbeau-Mistassini in 1975 by Marcel Trottier, Hydromec is a family business. From the beginning, the company’s mission was to offer products and services in the field of hydraulics and mechanics. Hence the name (Hydro+Mec=Hydromec).

2002

Gradually, the company has always had sustained growth until the acquisition of the company by the three sons: Gilles, Benoit and Jean in 2002.

Expansion project and opening of a branch in Chicoutimi

2003

In the fall of 2003, a new expansion project aimed at market diversification on rue de la Manic in Chicoutimi. The objective was then to move towards industrial markets while remaining active in the forestry industry.

2004 to 2006

Shortly after the opening of the Chicoutimi branch, the company was courted by the Finnish manufacturer Ponsse, to become a distributor of their renowned forestry equipment. Despite the company’s small size, Ponsse’s people are confident that Hydromec will be able to meet the challenge of going from a service company to becoming a forestry equipment dealer with all that entails. A distribution agreement is signed in November 2004. Time proves the Vidgren family members right, who had seen in Hydromec a company with people who espouse the same values as them.

Expansion of the Dolbeau-Mistassini workshop

2006-2007

The workshop space has tripled in Dolbeau-Mistassini, with the addition of 3 overhead cranes (2x 10 tons and 1x 3 tons), in addition to the addition of the service department and the hydraulic and electronic repair shop.

2011-2012

Added a machining shop and a service shop with 10-ton overhead cranes in Chicoutimi.

Hydromec obtains a new title

2013

Hydromec receives the prestigious title of “Dealer of the Year”, a recognition from Ponsse to highlight the performance of market development and the excellence of the services offered.

2014-2017

2014 will mark the beginning of a series of works: expansion of the parts warehouse (quadrupled the capacity), purchase of digital machine tools, development of offices to accommodate the sales and human resources departments. In 2017, new offices and the expansion of the garage (addition of 3 doors) and a training room that can accommodate 20 people, with Ponsse simulator, will be added.
