Bison Active Frame
The fastest forwarder in the world
PONSSE Bison is the fastest forwarder in the world. This is easy to say, since no other forwarder has a transmission equipped with a stepless gear ratio change. When it is no longer necessary to stop when switching to the fast range from the slow range, working in all types of terrain is much faster. Just hit the throttle. With Active Frame as standard equipment, driving does not get smoother than this. It dramatically prevents the cabin, and the operator, from swaying. In addition, the new PONSSE Seat is now available – the first seat designed specifically for forest machines. These help you to drive faster in all types of terrain. However, the difference between a conventional hydrostatic transmission is remarkable on more even surfaces over longer distances. To top it all off, the engine rpm remains nearly constant, regardless of your speed. Of course, this has a significant impact on fuel consumption. Bison’s low-emission engine is highly economical.
A long-distance sprinter
Bison offers unprecedented new technology, from the front to the rear. The fuel economy and emissions of its Mercedes-Benz / MTU engine have been optimised to meet the strictest requirements. At the same time, it consumes very low amounts of fuel. In place of a conventional hydrostatic transmission, Bison’s engine is extended by the CVT transmission. Just hit the throttle and the stepless transmission selects the most ideal gear ratio. As a result, high speeds do not increase fuel consumption at the same ratio as in hydrostatic systems.
Equipped with the Active Crane boom control system, the grapple becomes an extension of the operator’s hand. It goes where you want it to go, easily and effortlessly. Loading is like child’s play. Bison carries 16 tons with unprecedented ease from forests to storage sites.

Special features
PONSSE Active Crane offers a new way of controlling the loader and boosting efficiency. It is a system which the operator uses to control the grapple or harvester head movement instead of individual functions, allowing the operator to concentrate efficiently on loader work.
Active Frame eliminates, in particular, any sideways movement directed at the operator. This presents the most significant loading factor directed at the operator’s body when working with a forest machine. Active Frame suspends any swaying efficiently, while keeping the operator’s seat horizontal.
The PONSSE Bison frame is designed to withstand high stress and various operating conditions which enables it to be equipped with a front mounted bulldozer blade. The blade is an optional feature for the PONSSE Bison.
The most spacious and comfortable cabin and the most ergonomic controls in the market guarantee the best working comfort.
The cabin can be equipped with PONSSE Seat. It is the first seat designed specifically for forest machines. This is why the special needs of forest machine operators have been addressed in its design. The seat and, in particular, its base are solid, the seat has diverse suspension adjustments and the whole package withstands heavy-duty operations for years without any impact.
For demanding terrain and challenging conditions – use the higher tractive force of the CVT technology.
Now, you can use the entire speed range of your machine without stopping, the situation permitting. PONSSE Bison’s new transmission is based on the CVT technology. CVT includes the stepless changing of gear ratios, and thus the conventional switching between the slow and fast gear is no longer necessary. In a machine equipped with CVT, the conventional hydrostatic transmission has been replaced with a separate CVT gear system. This enables a higher fuel economy and tractive force. The advantages of a high tractive force materialise, in particular, when driving on steep slopes, in soft terrain and in deep snow.
PONSSE Bison is fast and economical. It has plenty of torque in the most demanding places, but at incredibly low rpm, thanks to CVT. Engine rpm remains low and fuel economy high, also when loading.
The design of the frame focuses particularly on durability and ease of maintenance. The reliable frame oscillation lock equipped with hydraulic cylinders is solid and acts as a shock absorber when driving. In addition to reliability, the functional positioning and serviceability of components are typical characteristics of the structure. PONSSE K90+ (7.8/10 m) and K100+ (7.8/9.5 m) available as options.
